When we got to the hospital this morning, it didn't take long to see just how Lizzey was feeling....kind of icky, well, barfy! Although she was feeling less than great, she was ready for help in getting spiffied up a bit, so we put the chair in the bathroom and her supplies and she cleaned up a bit while I changed the sheets on the bed for her. She began really feeling icky and finally gave up the fight....and barfed. Remember...abdominal surgery....barfing.....very painful. But, being Lizzey, when she was done, she finished what she was doing and then headed back to bed where I did the finishing touches. Then it was back to the bathroom a bit later and I washed her hair for her. By that time she was sooooo tired, but she stayed sitting in the bathroom while I waited for her and when I asked how she was doing, she commented that she was just sitting there with her eyes closed....I interrupted the power nap in the bathroom!! Soon after she got back to bed, someone from dietary was there to talk about what she was 'allowed' to eat and what was not for the next 4-6 weeks....great woman, but poor Lizzey was about to fall asleep!! The plan was to finally take that nap when the 'stoma' nurse came in for another 'lesson' on ileostomy care etc. Now that was the last thing she wanted to do but a necessary thing so she stayed awake for that....and then.....lunch came. You know how thrilled she was to see food....all liquid, but the last thing she wanted to do!!
Finally about 1:30....it was naptime....and was she ever ready for that!! We left to give her peace and quiet and we wanted to have some, ummm, fun (?) so we went back to the CC Guesthouse.....and did.....laundry!!! We are such a wild family aren't we!!?? Of course when we went back later on, we found that we had missed seeing her doc...figures. She did tell Lizzey that she would be going 'nowhere' until she was able to eat and also not be feeling so nauseous. She said it is one of those things that varies from person to person and just takes....time!! Hmmm, sounds like 'wait and see' almost!! Tonight we walked the halls a few times but she is still fighting feeling icky so it does take some of the fun of getting out of her room for a short time. She is about ready to crawl into bed for the night....not that she will be getting lots of sleep. Her potassium is low, so she gets that thru her IV....and it normally comes about midnight....it takes 2 hours to be infused....and it burns. Then there are vitals to be taken other IV bags, pain pump to be monitored....and that is her 'peaceful' night at the hospital!!
