A loooooong day!!
Hmmm, where to start on a day like today....so long and I feel so tired, but all I did today was....sit, and sit, and....well, you get the idea!! We got to the hospital on time at 8am and she was taken back to pre-op about 8:20. She has not had surgery at CC before so we didn't know what to expect and it was a pleasant surprise. Private rooms and no limit on people in the room, so along with Dave and I, was also Katie and Annie who had driven in last night. Per usual, as we waited we had much laughter and fun, which I know probably sounds strange, but when we are together we do laugh...and have fun, no matter the circumstances! Normally, she gets 'stuck' so many times for the IV but today the nurse got it on the first try....bonus!! We didn't get to see her doc before she went back so were a bit disappointed in that, but overall, we have been very happy with all we had done here. We had to say good-bye to her about 10:20 and as we came out to the waiting area there was another sister....Rebekah, her son Travon and boyfriend Chris. They left early this morning and just missed seeing Lizzey but were so glad we were all together. Our waiting began so found a nice corner and....well....waited!! Here, they give you pagers that about every 2 hours an update is posted, so we were eager for the updates. Our first update stated that surgery had begun at....11:47....later than what we expected but at least it was started. Time seemed to go a bit slow for some reason, the updates never close enough together, but finally a bit after 5, we were paged to meet with the doc....whoppee!! She was pleased with how surgery went, but said it was a longer surgery than she anticipated due to the large size of her colon, and the small size of....Lizzey!! Due to the results of the testing she had done she did have to be fitted with an ileostomy. I was so hoping that we wouldn't have to go this route, but due to numerous factors, her doc felt this was the best way to go. She will have this for 3 monthes and then...guess what.....we will be back here....again at CC for....another surgery.....#9. This will give her body the time it needs to heal more fully before anymore added stress to her system. She was taken to the PACU about 5:30 and we continued to wait, and finally about 8 we asked why we were not able to get back and see her. We had a feeling it was due to her being ever so slow in 'waking up' and when they finally let us back there she was....snoozin!! I think she knew we were there, but doubt if she remembers it tomorrow. She was then moved to a room on the 7th floor....not the building where her doc hoped she would be, but due to 'overcrowding'....or something, she was put in a room that formally had been used as a....VIP room! It is a private room with a huge window with a great view, really big TV and beautiful woodwork....if she ever opens her eyes, she will be very pleased!! We stayed until the nurses had her comfy and the paperwork done...well, guess it is now computer work!! She did whisper to comb her hair and wipe off her face so know she is 'in there'!! She is hooked to a PCP pain pump and have a feeling it will be used and hope it brings her some comfort. I always hate leaving, but know she hates it when she feels like we are 'staring' at her.....maybe someday she will understand that 'staring' at her.....after a day like today....is wonderful!!

Glad everything went well - I liked the private waiting rooms too - made you almost think you were going to a private hotel room. What a blessing to get a VIP room - prayers continue
